Production & Test Engineer

Competitive salary (to reflect ability and experience) plus benefits

We’re expanding our team and are looking for a Production & Test Engineer who can become a product expert with cutting-edge dairy cow monitoring devices and associated infrastructure. This expertise would then be applied to verify new product functionality and perform an ongoing programme of improvement to hardware infrastructure. This is a varied role, encompassing a range of skills and is based in our HQ in South Queensferry.

Main duties and responsibilities
• Work with senior engineers to implement testing of new products
• Perform design reviews and verification testing on new and existing products
• Second line support of existing customer installations
• Device firmware programming, debug and testing
• Visit customer farms to perform real-world tests on devices

Qualifications and experience
• Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or related discipline
• 1-3 years’ experience in industry

Skills & abilities
Essential:
• Hands-on electronics skills like soldering and prototyping essential
• Practical skills, focus and self-reliance required

Desirable:
• Project management
• Programming PIC or ARM devices in C
• Python programming for IoT useful but not essential
• Documentation: creation and management
• RF experience advantageous

Other:
• Systematic and able to operate at all levels of the organisation
• Methodical worker
• Must be willing to travel to customer sites and other farms for hardware testing. Estimated 20% of time spent travelling to UK sites
• Good communicator, happy to work with other team members and to have direct contact with customers
• Interest in the dairy industry useful
• RF experience advantageous

Full driving licence mandatory.

Key Account Manager – Scotland & Northern Ireland

We’re expanding our team and are looking for a Key Account Manager for Scotland and NI. Friendly and professional, with a passion for the dairy industry, you will be responsible for developing new business and building and maintaining long-term relationships with our customers. Your enquiring nature and attention to detail will help ensure that customer needs are understood and fulfilled to a high level of satisfaction. This is a varied role, encompassing a range of sales and customer service skills. It is based in our HQ in South Queensferry with extensive travel in Scotland and NI, and additional travel within the wider UK and overseas also possible.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Identifying potential new customers
  • Manage sales process and pitches to potential and existing customers
  • Ensure new customers are effectively and efficiently engaged including provision of quotations and contracts
  • Support new customers through the initial period to ensure CowAlert is optimised for their requirements
  • Build strong, trust-based relationship with customers and be the named contact point for them by telephone, email and face to face
  • Be the voice of the customer and act as the key interface between them and all relevant divisions
  • Involvement in the ongoing education/training of customers
  • Assist with system installation and site-based trouble-shooting
  • Perform scheduled site visits to ensure customers are satisfied and are gaining maximum benefit from the use of the Company’s products and services
  • Take ownership for resolving and documenting customer issues and queries within given response and resolution timelines
  • Provide added value to customers and promote product enhancements and new products where appropriate
  • Attend trade shows and exhibitions
  • With assistance of UK Account Manager, support 3rd parties such as installers and sales agents
  • Apply and help develop good practice to evolve the relationship with customers
  • Assist with management of product preparation and dispatch where required
  • Ensure business systems are kept up to date
  • Provide support and cover to colleagues where required
  • Manage the company van kept at HQ as part of H&S commitment

Qualifications and experience

  • Previous success in high-value sales and customer support
  • Passion for, and experience in, the dairy industry
  • Experience of working with technology, eg as a dairy engineer or similar

  • Well organised with ability to manage own time and prioritise effectively
  • Enquiring mind: able to listen to the customer and identify and articulate the value CowAlert can bring
  • Analytical and systematic in approach
  • Able to negotiate, persuade and close sales
  • Strong relationship-building skills
  • Ability to identify opportunities for service improvement
  • Experience with an ERP or CRM system desirable, especially SAP
  • Keenness to self-educate and work towards a better understanding of key customer issues
  • Intermediate user of Word, Excel
  • Ability to speak German, and/or Spanish welcomed
