Machine Vision

005.jpg

We have undertaken a broad range of machine vision projects, from industrial inspection systems for defect detection, to video compression, and through to complex real-time tracking systems.

Our team is familiar with a number of industry standard packages and are able to develop bespoke machine vision algorithms in C/C++ where appropriate.

We have particular experience in the use of 3D machine vision systems, including using laser line scanning to create 3D models of potatoes, and Time-of-Flight cameras to control robots and autonomous vehicles. We have delivered a number of projects using the IFM O3D and O3M cameras and are able to embed image processing algorithms onto these cameras.

Quality Control

Our client required a quality control machine to inspect rubber parts and test them for conformity and for any damage before passing them to an operator for bagging.

Peacock Technology worked closely with the client to design and build a machine vision system with pnuematic part testing and added data logging capacity. The vision system used three cameras to inspect the parts from above and from the side, the system could then be trained to monitor the permitted variance for each part. Those that did not meet the criteria could be identified and rejected. We added a laser etcher to mark successful parts with a date and pass stamp for traceability.

Our client can now monitor the production process and test parts to a consistent standard at the company’s site in the Czech Republic. Further machines have now been commissioned for use across their global locations.

Robot Milking Machine

Our client required a bespoke machine vision system for locating and tracking cow teats on a robot milking machine running on a rotary milking parlour.

Through live data capture and trials the team developed a machine vision algorithm using a Time-of-Flight camera to provide 3D images of the cow teats. This system was tested and refined in collaboration with our client’s own robot developers. The vision system had to withstand the constant movement, shocks and vibration from being mounted on a robot arm, together with a real world farming environment.

Our client now has a fully commissioned robotic milking system with a large installed base across North America and Europe.
