Automation

033.jpg

Our team has delivered a wide range of bespoke automation projects.

These have involved Scara robots (Omron), 6-axis robots (Kuka, Yaskawa, Fanuc), delta robots (Omron) and Autonomous Vehicles (Omron).

Many of our projects have involved linking vision systems to control automation tasks, and we are particularly  familiar with Halcon, Omron and Matrox vison systems. We design and build bespoke control cabinets for machine control and automation.

We have also worked on projects to upgrade or even replace old control systems. Our team is familiar with a wide range of PLCs including Siemens S7, Omron (with Sysmac Studio), Festo CPX (with CoDeSys), IFM (with CoDeSys), and Mitsubishi (GX Works).

Fish Vaccination

Fish farms vaccinate their fish to prevent disease and improve welfare. Young fish are anaesthetised, removed from the water, injected with vaccine, and then returned to the water. This is a skilled job that must be done quickly to minimise time spent with the fish out of water.

We worked closely with our client to prove their concept by building the world’s first fish vaccination robot system. This used a Halcon Vision System to locate the fish on a conveyor, an Omron Quatro robot then picked up the fish using a bespoke End of Arm tool which precisely injected the fish with vaccine then returned the fish to the water.

The successful demonstration of this system has enables our client to raise funding enabling them to go on to commercialise this revolutionary approach to vaccinating fish.

Telescope Coating Plant

The VISTA telescope at the European Southern Observatory Paranal site in the Atacama desert, Chile required an upgrade to the mirror coating plant. The mirrors are coated using a magnetron sputtering process and the system needed upgrading to work with Silver, Aluminium and Silicon to improve mirror performance.

Peacock Technology worked with the UK Astronomy Technology Centre to develop a new gas supply cabinet, a new control cabinet to add to the existing Profibus network and the Siemens S7 PLC code was updated to support the changes. Development and testing was carried out in our workshop before the new cabinet was shipped to Chile along with our own engineers.

The upgrades have enabled enhanced mirror cleaning at the European Southern Observatory and will provide clearer imaging of the skies for years to come.

Medical Device Assembly

Our client had developed a new product to screen for allergies and had secured the relevant medical approvals. The product used a cartridge which was assembled by hand, a process that was time consuming and led to many devices failing Quality Control.

Changing the cartridge to simplify assembly would be too difficult as it would require the medical approvals to be re-certified. We worked with our client to develop a system to assemble the device using a 6-axis robot to mimic the human steps in a repeatable, consistent manner.

Larvae Sorting

Our client came from the exciting sector of insect protein and needed a system to sort insect larvae based on criteria such as weight. Previously this was done manually, but a manual process was too slow to meet the demands of their growing business.

We worked with our client using an Omron EasyFeeder to feed the larvae through so that they could be picked up using an Omron Scara robot and a vacuum picker. We used a vision system written in Halcon to locate the larvae. The larvae were then weighed and then placed in a container based on their weight.

Mobile RoboticsWe are very excited to be an integrator for the Omron LD series of Autonomous Vehicles. Able to rapidly learn new factory layouts these systems can simplify delivery tasks that would previously have required complex conveyor assemblies. Contact us to for a demonstration and to discuss your application.
